Father's Day 2013

Father's Day!!!!

Alfie woke up a little past seven this morning and was his usual smiling self.  He brought Jay's card into the bedroom himself and gave it to his daddy, looking completely proud of himself.  After church it was Alfie's nap time and he decided to sleep for a whopping three and a half hours!!! 

After quickly having tea, we rushed out to Kidzone at church where Alfie and Jay tried out their presents.... matching super-hero capes.  The long nap he'd had in the afternoon meant that we squeezed out a few extra hours of happiness from him - and that little man of ours played and played and played.

Alfie looks at his daddy in an indescribable way... a look of complete adoration.  And Jay in return looks back at him in the same way.

Wow!  I look at these two and know that I will never find the words that can completely convey the privilege I have of calling these two boys, mine.

Happy Fathers Day to the most caring, fun-filled, loyal and loving daddy that I get to spend my life with.

Happy Father's Day to my own wonderful Dad and Dad-in-law.

Happy Father's Day to all the other amazing daddies out there.

Little Darling

Has it really been that long since I last blogged?

I guess between a big summer production I'm preparing for in school and my daily housework routines..... okay, well maybe just the summer production - this special place of mine has had to take a back seat for a little while.  However, it seems for many reasons, I have been unable to sleep tonight.  It's 4:20am and I haven't slept a wink!  So I'm writing this with a cup of tea on my left, a snoring springer spaniel to my right - and behind this page on my screen is a two minute video being exported, of my fully fledged toddler.  Oh boy, this kid is growing fast!

I have so much to share on here about - and for - my special little man, who continues to amaze us in everything he is learning to do.  I heard a song earlier today that made me think of this little ray of sunshine and put it with this video so I wouldn't forget it.  

And hopefully, when the craziness in school dies down a bit, I'll be back here much more often...... 

I miss this place....... xx

Spring Break

If it seems that Alfie looks a little younger in these photos, that's because he is..... 

These are pictures we took of the little man on his first trip down to his grandparents' caravan in West Wales last year at Easter.  The sun was glorious that week (or at least in my memory it was - no doubt it was overcast most of the time!!!) and I frequently sit at my computer, staring longingly at the beautiful blue sky in these unedited pictures.  Alfie rocked in his little Levi dungarees that I was always putting him in and he had yet to realise, how easy it was to pull those sunglasses off!  Of course Miss Ellie came along too..... making our little family complete.

This year's Easter Break wasn't quite the same experience that we were anticipating.  The sun refused to shine brightly...... actually, it refused to shine at all, leaving us with freezing temperatures and even gentle flakes of snow at one point! Both boys were poorly, so just like the old days, it was up to Miss Ellie to keep us entertained with her funny antics!

Despite our best efforts to stay positive, we knew we'd be back later on in the year, so we packed up and came home early, choosing instead to spend the rest of the week celebrating Easter at Bethesda with our friends.

Alfie's Winter Books

After our visit to the library a couple of weeks ago, I reminded myself that I'd taken pictures of Alfie reading some books that we already had at home.

Having NOT been a mornings person in my days before Alfie came along, I have relished the little routine he brought with him when he joined our family.  I think it's one of the best things about how my life has changed.  Almost since the day he was born we have had the same goal each morning when I am not in school.  We wake up at seven and head straight downstairs for breakfast together.  Then Alfie plays with a few of his toys on the bathroom floor while I quickly shower and get dressed.  Alfie then gets his turn at being washed and dressed - and nothing feels more satisfying than when we manage to get it all done before 9 o'clock.

Sound doubtful??  You bet it does!!  But somehow....... it's true......
Though I will always love those days when I can lie-in, I'm so careful not to waste my days off work with Alfie.  This routine has always seemed like the best way to make sure that doesn't happen. The regularity of our first few hours in the morning makes us happy and sane!! (I love this little boy and how he's changed me.....)

These long wintry days have been bitterly cold of late though, and nothing is more tempting than staying cosied up in a warm bed, with Alfie drinking his milk lying next to me, rather than downstairs in the kitchen, which has to work hard to warm up at that time in the morning.  When Alfie has finished up with his milk and porridge, he gets sucked into his books that are now spread to the four corners of the bed.  I tell you, that boy can turn those pages for a good hour before deciding that he's ready for a different adventure.  Same books....... same pages........ same pictures.......... It is so funny seeing the once smart and fresh books now with their slightly worn looking/half eaten pages.
